Soul Mates?

In romance, the ultimate ending is the heroine capturing the heart, and vice versa, of the hero—her soul mate. But does that elusive individual really exist? And how do you know if you’ve found him? It’s not like he has [Insert name here]’s Soul Mate tattooed on that sexy ass of his.
What if he exists but doesn’t live anywhere near you? Maybe he’s in another country or even another continent. Is there some divine intervention that will lead you to him? I mean, can you imagine if your soul mate is out there but you don’t know where he is? That would burn big time.
Now if fate would have it that you find your soul mate, what would happen if he dies before you? Does that mean you’ll never find love and happiness again? And if you do, and you all end up in heaven together, what happens now? You see where I’m going here? (I know the erotic romance writers’ minds are spinning with possibilities.)

And what about in paranormal novels? If one of the lovers is immortal and the other one is mortal, and they’re soul mates . . . well, what does that mean for the poor immortal individual? Man, that sure would suck if there was only one soul mate for him, wouldn’t it? Or maybe if you’re immortal, you get to have several soul mates scattered throughout the centuries.  And if not, well, you’d better come up with a way to turn your soul mate into an immortal too. I’m just saying, ya know.
Of course, there’s always the possibility of reincarnation. Great, if you’re a teenage immortal. Not so great if you’re much older. Now you’ve got an even longer wait ahead of you.
So what about you? Do you believe there is only one person out there for you? And do you believe you’ve found him (or her), or are you still searching?
(Okay, this post is what happens when Stina drinks too much caffeine.) ;)

I believe there's room in my heart for many loves: my husband, my daughter, my characters. ;) Love isn't finite. It's endless possibilities, some of which may never be realized.

The Fallen series does the whole she-lives-16-years-dies-and-comes-back thing and it seems to work okay.

I like the idea of there being one special person for me, but yeah, what if he lives and dies a hundred years before or after I'm born. Bummer.

I'm just glad I have the wonderful hubby I do!

I have to say that I like the idea of soul mates. Goes back to the saying that everything happens for a reason. Although sometimes I feel that Fate and Destiny are like sisters. There are times that they are on the same page and other times that they aren't. So I guess that is why I like writing so much, I can bring people together who are supposed to be together!

Gina--didn't I tell you about my paranormal abilities? Oops! Must of slipped my mind.

Linda--I have the first book of the Fallen series (I won it), but haven't read it yet. Will definitely read it soon. And not just because of the hot guy on the cover. :D The reincarnation idea pops up a lot in YA paranormals.

I'm such a romantic fool. I believe it's one true soul mate and yeah, I found him! :-)

LOL! I wonder about that myself...hubby's Grandma is married to #3...#1 she divorced, #2 has died, but he was a widower when she married him, #3 is also a widower....so when they get to heaven there are gonna be a whole lot of people in this love mess!!! LOL!!!!!

But I do believe in soul mates. My hubby and me fit together perfectly, though we do still disagree and have our issues from time to time. But I see other guys, and know without a doubt, they he is the only one who would fit perfectly with me.

It makes you wonder... not sure I've found mine, but I don't like the idea of there only be one possibility! I'd rather think that a soulmate is really a sum of perfect qualities that more than one person can possess. :)

I say nay, for the very reasons you pointed out. What if they die before you? What if they live in Bangladesh and you live in Iceland? And marvelous point about the poor immortal, only getting love for a single lifetime then spending all the ages of the world alone. How boring would that be?

So no, I don't believe in soulmates. I believe any one person (hopefully) has a scattered group of unusually compatible individuals out there-- even if that one person is a huge douche. Problem is, 'scattered group of unusually compatible individuals' just doesn't sound as romantic.

I don't believe in the concept of soul mates, but my hubby is the perfect match for me. Heck, any guy who doesn't cringe at the amount of books I buy is looking pretty good. But Mr. L has virtues (and a killer bod) that puts the others to shame. :D

I think some people are better suited to us than others. Some people are VERY suited to us. I doubt there is such a thing as a flawless relationship. Overall, yes I believe in soul mates, but I think you can have several.

No such thing as too much coffee! LOL actually, I love the idea of soul mates and sure like to read about them, but in real life it seems a bit improbable. I met my husband when I was sixteen. . . enough said:)

This is both funny and intriguing at the same time! A great example of the fun directions that asking "what if?" questions can lead you in!!

So glad I've found my soul mate, but there was a time when I deeply pondered questions like these - and of course I still love to read about them! And on the flip side, I do believe it's possible to have more than one soul mate (just not at the same time!!!!)
